THE WHOLESALE FORKLIFT FIELD GUIDE
Electric, propane or diesel?
Choose the energy system around the work and the building.
Electric: plan the whole charging system
Electric trucks do not produce combustion exhaust at the point of use. Battery size, condition, chemistry and charging arrangements still determine whether a particular machine fits the duty cycle. Confirm electrical supply and charging requirements before purchase.
Propane: include ventilation and fuel handling
LPG can be useful in some handling operations, but it still produces combustion exhaust. Evaluate indoor air controls, cylinder storage and handling, servicing and fuel access. An open warehouse door does not establish safe conditions.
Diesel: assess the application carefully
Diesel machines are often evaluated for outdoor duties. Fuel type alone does not establish load capacity or terrain suitability. Include emissions, maintenance and local service support in the comparison.
A useful comparison
Prepare the same load, route, shift and site brief for each option. Compare purchase, energy, maintenance, infrastructure and downtime assumptions over the same period. Ask the supplier to show the assumptions behind any claimed saving.
Keep building your brief.
