THE WHOLESALE FORKLIFT FIELD GUIDE
Your forklift buying checklist
The measurements and questions that make an enquiry useful.
1. Record the load
Write down the heaviest load and its length, width and height, including packaging. Identify uneven weight distribution, load overhang and special handling. State the required load centre if known; otherwise ask for help establishing it.
2. Measure the site
Measure clear aisle widths, door openings, overhead restrictions, highest rack level and loading-dock transitions. Record gradients and floor conditions. Photos and drawings can help a competent supplier, but do not replace precise dimensions.
3. Describe the shift
Estimate operating hours, travel distances, lifting frequency and available breaks. Describe indoor, outdoor, cold-store or mixed use and any charging or fuelling facilities.
4. Compare the written offer
Ask for exact model and serial number where available, specification, condition evidence, battery and charger information, attachments, warranty terms, exclusions and delivered cost. Require confirmation of suitability before committing.
