THE WHOLESALE FORKLIFT FIELD GUIDE
Capacity, load centre and lift height
Why the number on the listing is only the starting point.
Read the exact capacity information
A forklift capacity rating applies to specified conditions. Load centre, lift height, mast and attachment configuration affect the relevant rating. Use the exact truck’s capacity plate and manufacturer information, and ask a competent person to confirm the application.
Describe long and uneven loads
Two loads of equal weight can have different handling requirements when their dimensions or centre of gravity differ. Share pallet dimensions, load overhang and any offset centre of gravity. Do not choose a truck by weight alone.
Attachments change the question
A clamp, side-shift or other attachment can change the truck’s capacity and load position. Verify the approved combination and the correct capacity marking. Do not assume an attachment can be fitted without review.
This is a purchasing guide
This page does not calculate a safe working capacity or authorize a lift. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, the machine’s markings and the workplace’s competent assessment.
