THE WHOLESALE FORKLIFT FIELD GUIDE
What to request before buying used
Turn a listing into an evidence-based equipment comparison.
Start with identification
Request the make, model, serial number, year where established, meter reading and clear data-plate photographs. Make sure inspection and service documents refer to that machine. Clarify any replaced meter or missing history.
Ask for component condition
Request findings on the mast, forks, chains, hydraulics, steering, brakes, tyres and controls. Electric equipment also needs battery and charger information. A description such as “reconditioned” needs a written explanation of the work actually completed.
Arrange a competent inspection
Have a qualified person assess the truck and any identified defects before a binding purchase. Operational checks should be conducted safely by a trained, authorized operator. Do not use an online checklist as permission to operate unfamiliar equipment.
Read the terms
Establish warranty if offered, exclusions, return rights if any, payment terms, transport responsibility and acceptance conditions. Keep repair estimates alongside the offer so the likely near-term cost is clear.
Keep building your brief.
