Batteries and chargers: what to check
Avoid buying an electric truck without a workable energy plan.
Identify the battery
Ask for chemistry, voltage, capacity, age, service history and condition evidence. Confirm that the battery is the correct specification for the truck, including weight requirements where applicable. Request manufacturer guidance rather than substituting a battery based on voltage alone.
Match the charger
Confirm compatibility between truck, battery and charger. Ask a qualified electrical professional to verify the required building supply, connection and installation. Include the cost of any necessary electrical work in the comparison.
Plan around the shift
Explain actual operating hours, load intensity, breaks and ambient temperature. Charging strategy and battery maintenance differ by system. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging, storage, inspection and handling.
Compare inclusions explicitly
A truck price may or may not include a battery, charger or their preparation. Obtain an itemized written quote and document the condition and warranty, if any, for each component.
